‘The rebels have won’ tour

Tour summaryA mainly flat walk on pavements. Some walking uphill towards the north end of Glasgow city centre (Cowcaddens area).

In 1994, the unthinkable almost happened. Celtic Football Club came close to extinction.

For years, the club had been failing to invest and falling behind Rangers – on and off the park. But Celtic fans were not prepared to simply accept this.

Actions were taken to save the club, including starting campaign groups, holding rallies, boycotting fixtures and seeking new investment.

Many people were involved in this, but one man’s name will always stand out: Fergus McCann, who led the movement that ensured Celtic still enjoy an unbroken history.

Now, 30 years on, you can learn the story of these events, including visiting many of the Glasgow city centre sites that were at the heart of the drama.

“The game is over. The rebels have won.”

“Thoroughly recommended. A fantastic experience learning our club’s history with like-minded Celtic people.”
